Every single recipe in this book covers all three issues at the same time and are still incredibly yummy, satisfying, and fulfilling. Who doesn’t love great tasting desserts! The problem with them is that they are high in animal fat, calories and bad for your cholesterol. But wait, what if you make a vegan clone, which means minus the animal fat and cholesterol, and most likely lower in calories and healthier for you. Let’s face it, all desserts are not great for you but it is ok to splurge occasionally and enjoy delicious sweets, especially when they are vegan and contain no animal ingredients.

That’s what ‘Are You Sure That’s Vegan?’ dessert cookbook author, Claire Gosse delivers. Her book showcases a recipe per page that is easy to read and follow instruction while displaying beautiful photographs of the awesome desserts that will make your mouth water.

You won’t even miss the old animal ingredients when trying out these vegan recipes because the desserts actually taste better than the traditional ones. Cupcakes that are vegan do not taste like cardboard. Claire has toyed with and mastered the ingredients in each recipe to deliver moist, flavorful and scrumptious delights.

The China Study is a fascinating book on health and nutrition and its connection to your health and many diseases that are prevalent today. The authors, T. Colin Campbell, PHD and Thomas M. Campbell II, conducted a nationwide study in China, with over 200 skilled professionals researching and studying the effects of diet and nutrition as it relates to your health.

One thing this book failed to discuss was the role that high fructose corn syrup consumption plays on the nationwide epidemic, diabetes. However, the real link between diabetes is a diet high in animal fat from meat and dairy.

I found this book entertaining, insightful and full of good research that challenges special interest groups (meat and dairy industry) and the government, revealing to the masses what eating animal products is doing to your body and health. This isn’t a cookbook or the next best fad diet. It is a book that delivers shocking results about the relationship between what you eat and disease. Do you really want to take medication to lower your cholesterol after you shove down a fat cheeseburger?

Read this book for solid nutritional information for anyone who wants to eat and live healthy.

Author Jennifer McCann designs colorful and fun looking bento-style lunch boxes that any picky eater would be tempted to try…and love!

But, talk about one of the most boring cookbooks ever! Vegan Lunch Box Around The World is a book of text, hardly any lovely pictures which I am used to seeing in cookbooks. There are only a few pages of color photos in the middle of the book. When I try out a new recipes, I want to see a snap shot of what each dish should look like. OK, I am really critical, and it’s only pictures. Really, though, this book is loaded with a tone of great tasting vegan recipes for any lunch box, child or adult!

Now, what I loved about the book was the variety in recipes. You can find recipes by regions of the world and go to those recipes based on the types of foods you enjoy. This book is a collection of dishes from all six continents, from Germany to Trinidad, including many regional American favorites. Each recipes also focuses on balance and nutrition, combining colorful ingredients to make your lunch box pop!

This is a straight forward bento-style lunch box recipe book that is good to have on hand for anyone with children. The recipes are great for adults too! And, they are not just for lunch. Try making them for dinner. I like that each recipe lists allergy information for those with gluten, wheat, soy, nuts and corn allergies. Recipes are also labeled ‘Quick & Easy’ for dishes that are quick to prepare and ‘Kid Friendly’ for those dishes that have been kid tested and kid approved. Make a bento-style lunch box.

If you’re looking for a healthy eating guide that is easy to understand and incorporate into your daily routine, then look no further. Eating For Energy – Raw Food Diet For Weight Loss, by Yuri Elkaim brings it home with an in-depth plan to help you achieve optimal health while boosting your energy level naturally and helping to prevent disease. This book is reader friendly and captivating, containing a wealth of information on plant-based, whole food nutrition to feed your brain and nourish your body. I like how Yuri categorizes and defines what you need to do to better your health, along with giving action steps to help you along the way. Yuri outlines how replacing 5 glasses of animal milk with 100 grams of sesame seeds delivers your daily calcium intake, and it’s vegan!

What I did not like about the book was the recommendation of whey protein and omega-3 fish oil (derived from sardines, anchovies, mackerel, etc.). Being vegan, I do not consume any animal ingredients. There is a liquid omega-3 that has no animal derivatives. However, he did offer up hemp protein as an alternative to whey protein. And, he did suggest reducing and eliminating meat and dairy from your diet altogether! So, I am still a strong believer in this e-book.

The best part is the brainless 12-week meal plan. It’s already planned for you, so you don’t have to think about what you are going to eat. Just make the fabulous recipes, full of superfoods and good nutrition. Although there are no pictures, and I am big on pictures, none were needed. The fresh living ingredients and the combinations in each recipe drew me in. This book is an absolute must have if you are serious about bettering your health, losing weight, and living a vibrant life.

Being from Wisconsin, America’s Dairyland and home of a vast variety of cheeses, I wondered how anyone can replicate the texture and the flavour of different cheeses. Joane Stepaniak, author of The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook accomplishes just that! Her book has many recipes for all kinds of un-cheeses which are healthy for you, contains no animal fat because it is dairy-free, has less overall fat, and is lower in calories than the real variety.

Her book lists recipes for any cheese-lover covering spreads, dips, pestos, soups, stews, chowders, fondues, pasta, quiches, and pizzas to salads. She explores why we rely on dairy and asks if our bodies really need it, offering up plant based foods that are loaded in calcium, since dairy tends to deliver lots of it. It’s a unique book that every cheese lover needs in the kitchen. You be the judge, click to order and sample some recipes.

Veganomnicon is yet another vegan cookbook with lots of text and minimal pictures. I really do like to see what the dish should look like and if I even want to attempt to make it based on its picture. Granted, there are several pages of colorful photos in the middle of the book, but only for a handful of recipes. Why do publishers do this?! Also, I like to see one recipe per page along with a color photo please.

Anyway, Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero’s book, Veganomnicon is worthy of purchasing and trying out some of the fantastic recipes, of which there are 250, that are egg-less and dairy-free. Their passion for concocting unique vegan dishes with eclectic flavours comes out in this book. Recipes are classic and contemporary, so there is something for everyone. The authors are entertaining and use mild curse words that should not offend most, and may even make you laugh.

What frustrated me about this book was that most recipes take too long to prepare. I like to make most vegan recipes 30 minutes and under. I simply do not have to time to be in the kitchen each day preparing time consuming recipes. I do like to save these lengthy recipes for the weekend, since I have more time then. If you try to cook vegan meals 30 minutes and under, then this book is not for you. However, if you like to sample new recipes and have the time on the weekend, like me, then buy the book because there are lots of great recipes.

I did love that the recipes were not complicated and did not require new gadgets that you have to purchase. The authors provide tips with recipes to make it easy for anyone to follow. They also provide a section explaining vegan ingredients and techniques to make it fun to cook and enjoy all of the recipes, ranging from casseroles, one-pot and stove-top meals, and sauces and fillings to ‘sammiches’ and my all time favorite, desserts.
